The Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, has reiterated that Spain will not participate in the military mission in the Strait of Hormuz and that the Government does not plan to send minehunters to this strategic area of the Persian Gulf.
Robles explained that the position of the Executive remains unchanged and that, for the moment, Spain does not contemplate integrating into this international operation aimed at reinforcing maritime security in the region.
The minister recalled that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the main transit points for world oil trade and that the situation in the area generates concern due to existing geopolitical tensions.
However, he stressed that any Spanish participation in operations of this type must be evaluated with caution and always within the framework of the decisions adopted by the Government and in coordination with international allies.
