Spain receives this Wednesday European aid to face the migratory crisis in Ceuta after the massive entry of people into the territory at the end of July. In this regard, the European Commission has granted the Government of Pedro Sánchez 114.7 million euros, under the concept of emergency assistance financing.

“This financial aid adds to the immediate response of the Commission from day one, when it offered Spain both financial and operational assistance. The decision once again demonstrates the Commission's full solidarity with Spain in dealing with this difficult situation,” the Commission stated.

Spain has formally requested aid from the European Union to deal with the massive entry of thousands of people into Ceuta through the border with Morocco between July 30 and 31. Thus, the European Commission has affirmed having received the formal request from the Government of Spain.

A spokesperson for the Commission conveyed to the news agency ‘Europa Press’ the movement of Pedro Sánchez's Executive.  “The Commission has received the formal request from the Spanish authorities for emergency assistance funding to address the migratory situation in Ceuta. The Commission has maintained close contact with Spain before receiving this formal request. And now we will work to achieve a rapid assessment and decision,” the aforementioned media outlet reports.

The request includes strengthening border security and improving the infrastructures intended to protect them, in addition to ensuring that Ceuta has sufficient spaces and resources to care for arriving people, especially unaccompanied minors.
