The Government of Spain is willing to consider sending military support to Cyprus if requested by the European Union within the framework of the conflict with Iran. This was indicated by the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, who has stressed that any Spanish participation would be limited to defense and protection tasks.
Robles has insisted that Spain is a committed ally with international organizations such as the European Union, NATO and the United Nations, and has indicated that the Government would study any request that might arise in the context of the crisis. However, she has differentiated between participating in attack operations and collaborating in missions aimed at guaranteeing security and stability.
The minister has also explained that the Spanish forces deployed in Turkey did not directly intercept the missile launched by Iran in one of the recent incidents, although they did provide information that contributed to it being able to be shot down. The war in the region has increased international tension and has led European countries to analyze possible support and protection measures.
