Pope Leo XIV has sent a direct message to political leaders by warning that “arrogance is not the path of good", during his first Chrism Mass, celebrated in the Vatican. In one of the most significant ceremonies of the Christian calendar, the Pontiff emphasized the importance of exercising authority from humility and service, in an international context marked by political and social tensions.

“Arrogance is not the way,” the Pope pointed out, in a clear allusion to attitudes of power far from the common good. During the mass, in which the oils used in the sacraments are blessed, the Pope also directed his message to the clergy, recalling the importance of maintaining a vocation close to the faithful and far from any form of authoritarianism.

The Pontiff insisted that both religious and political leaders must avoid falling into power dynamics that generate distance from the citizenry, opting instead for closeness, listening, and responsibility. "True leadership is built from service," he came to emphasize during his homily.
