The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has reacted to Spain's veto on the use of its airspace and military bases in operations linked to the conflict with Iran assuring that Washington does not depend on its allies. “The United States does not need help from Spain or anyone else”, he affirmed, insisting on the country's autonomous military capability.

For his part, the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has harshly criticized the Spanish Government's stance. "The Spanish Government has not only blocked the use of its bases, but also seems to be proud of it," Rubio stated, who considered that this attitude "sends a wrong message to allies" within NATO.

Rubio insisted that cooperation among allies is key in times of international crisis. “When there are global threats, it is logical for allies to work together, not to distance themselves or boast about not collaborating,” he added.
