The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has once again generated controversy after mocking the French president, Emmanuel Macron, by stating that “his wife treats him extremely badly.” He did so during a private lunch held last Wednesday, in which he also criticized the allies of NATO for not joining the war against Iran.
Trump assured that he contacted the French president to request support and stated: “I called France, Macron, whose wife treats him extremely badly. He is still recovering from a blow to the jaw”, in reference to an episode that became public between Brigitte Macron and the president of France in 2025, where she supposedly slapped him in the mouth.
The American president recounted that he asked for help in the Gulf and that Macron rejected the request. According to his version, the French leader responded that France could intervene once the war was over, to which Trump replied that he did not need support at that later time.
For his part, Macron responded this Thursday from Seoul to Trump's statements, assuring that his comments about his marriage are “neither elegant nor up to par” and that, in his opinion, “do not deserve a response”.
