Apple has announced the Apple Home Collection, a new range of home automation accessories developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric to expand the possibilities of its home ecosystem, as we anticipated in 'ElConstitucional.es'. The collection includes surveillance cameras, a video doorbell, a smart lock, and thermostats that allow controlling home security and temperature from the iPhone.

The proposal stands out for its integration with Apple Home: devices are configured with a single tap from the mobile and managed from the Home app or via Siri, without the need to install third-party applications or create additional accounts. In addition, Apple ensures that personal data and recordings are protected by end-to-end encryption, so neither the company itself nor its partners can access them.

Cameras that recognize people and packages

The LG Electronics range includes four camera models to monitor the interior and exterior of the home, with resolutions of up to 2.5K. The devices can recognize people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles, and packages, while recordings are stored for ten days in iCloud+, provided the user has a compatible plan.

Among the novelties is a video doorbell that incorporates two cameras to separately show those ringing the door and the packages left. It also includes a spotlight and allows receiving notifications on compatible Apple devices, as well as seeing who is at the entrance, talking to that person, and opening the door from the iPhone or iPad.

The collection is completed with an outdoor camera with spotlight and color night vision, another flexible installation outdoor camera, and an indoor model that can automatically tilt upwards to stop monitoring when someone returns home. The user can also adjust its position from the Home app.

A lock that detects when you approach

Another featured product is the LG Deadbolt smart lock. Thanks to ultra-wideband technology, it can detect when an authorized person carrying a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch approaches and automatically unlock the door, without needing to take the device out of their pocket.

It also allows opening via mobile or watch, entering a code on the integrated keypad, or using an emergency key. The lock can detect if the door has been opened, closed, or tampered with and send notifications when it remains open. In addition, owners can share access with guests directly from the Home app.

Integration with the doorbell allows checking who is at the entrance and opening it from other Apple devices. According to the company, basic access functions remain available even if the internet connection is lost, as they run on the device itself.

Smart thermostats to adjust the temperature

The collection also incorporates new smart thermostats from LG Electronics and Schneider Electric, accompanied by temperature and humidity sensors. Both manufacturers offer alternatives compatible with a wide variety of HVAC systems.

Through the adaptive temperature function of Apple Home, the system can adjust the climate control based on household routines: for example, when no one is left at home or when residents are preparing for sleep. In the continental United States, an additional function allows climate control to be programmed to take advantage of periods when electricity is cheaper and energy generation is cleaner, provided compatibility requirements are met.

Accessories can also be combined in automations. Thus, when the last person leaves home, the system can adjust the thermostat, activate the cameras, and lock the door, while, before returning, it can prepare the temperature and facilitate access.

Privacy and connection without additional applications

Apple presents privacy as one of the pillars of this new range. Recordings and personal data are end-to-end encrypted, and the system allows access to cameras from iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K or the new HomeView, as well as devices such as HomePod and HomePod mini.

All accessories are compatible with Thread, a connectivity technology for smart home devices that helps maintain communication between them. Apple also highlights that Wi-Fi network passwords can be automatically updated when the home network changes, avoiding having to manually reconfigure each accessory.

Price and availability

The Apple Home Collection will arrive at the Apple online store, the Apple Store app and physical stores starting in December, although some products will not be available until early 2027. Prices announced in the United States start at $199.95 for smart thermostats, $249.95 for the video doorbell and $349.95 for the Deadbolt lock. Cameras have different prices depending on the model: the plug-in outdoor camera starts at $199.95, the spotlight camera at $399.95 and the wired video doorbell at $249.95.

Initial availability varies by accessory and market. Some products will arrive in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, while others will have a more limited distribution. Users should consult their region's Apple store to find out which models will be available in Spain and when.
