Apple wants its ecosystem to stop ending with the iPhone, Apple Watch, or AirPods and start occupying every corner of the house, as we had been announcing on 'ElConstitucional.es'. The company would be preparing a new offensive in the smart home and, to do so, would have found in LG a strategic ally. The collaboration includes a wide range of connected accessories including security cameras, a smart lock, a video doorbell, a thermostat, and temperature sensors.
The move fits with Apple's new strategy for the home. According to information advanced by Mark Gurman, the company plans to soon present new devices such as a Home Hub, a revamped Apple TV, and a new generation of the HomePod mini, all with the new Siri based on artificial intelligence. But the big change would be in everything that can surround them: Apple wants to build a much more complete home ecosystem and compete head-to-head with the proposals that Google and Amazon have been developing for years.
NEW: Apple - in an unusual partnership with LG - is readying a Doorbell, Deadbolt Lock, Thermostat, Indoor Camera, Outdoor Camera, Floodlight Camera and more to rival Amazon and Google as part of its major smart home reboot. https://t.co/38pmnpaRSr pic.twitter.com/x2jUnksGj9

Cameras, locks, and a thermostat: Apple wants to occupy the whole house
The collaboration with LG would result in a real battery of home accessories. Among the devices that have emerged are indoor and outdoor security cameras, an outdoor camera with lighting, a video doorbell, a smart lock, a thermostat, and a temperature sensor.
The products would feature connectivity technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth and would be compatible with standards like Matter and Thread, essential for different home devices to communicate with each other regardless of the manufacturer. The lock would also incorporate UWB technology, allowing it to unlock automatically when the user approaches.
Según Bloomberg, Apple se asociará con LG para fabricar productos para hogar inteligente, entre los que se encuentran: timbres, cerraduras, termostatos y cámaras de seguridad.

Apple provides the design and LG manufactures the devices
The alliance also has a particularity: Apple would have participated directly in the development and in the design and feature decisions, while LG would be responsible for manufacturing the devices, marketing them under its own brand, and offering support.
It is a formula that allows Apple to quickly expand its home catalog without solely assuming all the necessary infrastructure to manufacture and distribute a new family of products. The strategy is reminiscent of other Apple collaborations with external manufacturers to create accessories that work closely linked to its ecosystem.
For LG, it also represents an important move. The company already has a strong presence in the connected home thanks to its ThinQ platform and its smart appliances, but this collaboration would allow it to expand its catalog into categories such as home security and home control.
The bet comes after years in which Apple has maintained a relatively discreet presence in the smart home market. HomeKit has been with us for more than a decade, but the company has limited much of its hardware strategy to Apple TV and HomePod, while Google and Amazon expanded their respective ecosystems with cameras, displays, speakers, doorbells, and other devices.
Now Apple seems willing to change its strategy. The Home Hub would be the central piece of this new ecosystem, with a touch screen that would allow controlling the connected devices in the home from one place. Around it would be the Apple TV, the HomePod mini, and the entire new range of accessories.
The big move is yet to come
Although the devices developed with LG would have already passed through regulatory bodies and some of their designs are even known, Apple has not yet officially confirmed this new range. Furthermore, everything indicates that some of these accessories would arrive later and would not be immediately available along with the rest of the novelties, within the release forecasts for October 13.
The important thing, however, goes beyond a lock or a camera. Apple seems to want to turn the home into the next great extension of its ecosystem, and to achieve this it is resorting to a partner with experience in electronics and connected devices. If the strategy ends up materializing, Cupertino will go from having a testimonial presence in the smart home to trying to occupy a good part of it.
