Around 3,000 people participated this Saturday in the third edition of the Republican March held in Madrid, a mobilization that toured the center of the capital under the slogan “We need a republic for peace, monarchy is war.” The call gathered attendees from different parts of Spain on a day marked by high temperatures.
The march started from the Puerta del Sol and made a stop in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where participants vindicated the historical message of “no to war” and expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people in view of the situation in Gaza. Subsequently, the mobilization continued to Reina Sofía square, where the final manifesto was read.
The organizers defended the republic as a political alternative linked to peace, democracy, and social justice. During the event, the spokespersons of the call underlined the need to respond to international conflicts, the increase in military spending, and social problems affecting citizens, such as access to housing.
This edition's manifesto emphasized the rejection of rearmament and wars, demanding a foreign policy based on cooperation among peoples. Likewise, participants demanded Spain's withdrawal from NATO and advocated for a republic that guarantees coexistence and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
The mobilization had the support of various social organizations and political parties, including Podemos, Izquierda Unida, Comuns, and Compromís. The Republican March, promoted by different athenaeums and collectives from all over the State, seeks to consolidate itself as a space for republican vindication and the defense of pacifist and democratic values.
