The third vice-president and minister for Ecological Transition, Sara Aagesen, revealed this Monday on the program Mañaneros 360 on TVE, presented by Javier Ruiz, that it was she who gave the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, the cap with the slogan ‘Make Science Great Again’ after his return from the last climate summit (COP), held last year.
During the interview, Aagesen defended the central role of science in political action and stressed that “it is the best companion for politics, not only to identify where the problems are, but also for how solutions can arrive”. In this regard, he vindicated the application of scientific knowledge to climate change and to “any aspect of our lives”.
The vice president gave as an example the Executive's energy policy, assuring that “it has worked for us by betting on the ecological transition”, with measures such as the increase of “50% of renewable energies”. In her opinion, these advances demonstrate that the green agenda is not a brake, but an economic engine.
Furthermore, he launched a direct political message by pointing out that “the real war has crushed that cultural war against the green agenda”, in reference to the criticisms of the Popular Party and Vox, whom he accused of having appealed to “climate fanaticism”. “The ecological transition agenda is an agenda of prosperity and protection,” he affirmed, concluding with a nod to the cap's motto: “Let's make science great again”.
