The leader of Vox, Santiago Abascal, has attacked the PP for, in his opinion, not assuming that electoral sociology in Spain has changed. In an interview published this Sunday in ABC, he maintains that Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party is “more intent on harming Vox than on beating the PSOE”, an attitude that, he warns, “can be lethal”.
“The PP has returned to its old ways, due to its nervousness, because it does not tolerate a strong Vox and because it does not accept the reality that electoral sociology has changed in Spain. They are more intent on harming us than on beating the PSOE. And that can be lethal”, states Abascal.
The leader also points out that in 2023 the popular party contributed to the “demonization” of their formation, which, in his opinion, favored the mobilization of the left-wing electorate. He believes that this scenario could be repeated in upcoming general elections. “That is why I want to raise a warning voice. Because the problem is the capacity that the PP has at this moment to destroy the alternative to Sánchez. We can discuss many political issues, but demonizing Vox with the same arguments as the left or running dirty campaigns can weaken us,” he explains.
In this context, Abascal urges Feijóo to prove otherwise “presenting a motion of no confidence against Sánchez instead of engaging in dirty war” against Vox. When asked about a possible coalition between both formations, he shows skepticism: “I believe they cannot count on that. Not because I don't want to or am not willing. We are clear about who is the only party with whom we can understand each other. But the PP does not. I am convinced that Feijóo still aspires to some kind of pact with the Socialist Party or what remains of it”.
