The leader of the far-right Vox, Santiago Abascal, has accused this Saturday the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, of using the current international situation marked by the conflict with Iran —initiated by former US President Donald Trump— as “excuses” to remain in power.

During his speech to the media in Budapest, where he is participating in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Abascal has warned that the head of the Executive is placing Spain “on the opposite side of the Western world” and has described the international context as “delicate” and “conflictive.”

The leader of Vox has raised the tone of his criticism by assuring that Sánchez is putting the country “in true danger” due to his foreign alliances. In this sense, he has stated that the president “is embracing the enemies of Western civilization”, in reference to international actors confronted with Spain's traditional allies.

Abascal has also maintained that the President of the Government “is playing with the security” of the country with the sole objective of prolonging his permanence in La Moncloa, in what he has described as a “flight forward”. According to his version, this strategy seeks to delay an eventual political reckoning for the corruption cases that, in his opinion, surround the Executive.

Within the framework of the conservative meeting in the Hungarian capital, where international leaders such as Javier Milei or Viktor Orbán coincide, Abascal has defended the need to explain to his allies “who Pedro Sánchez is”.

Likewise, he has taken the opportunity to criticize the Popular Party, whom he has accused of focusing on weakening Vox instead of fighting the Government, assuring that his party is making an “effort” to denounce what he has called the “mafia” around the president.
