The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, has assured that he cannot trust the “trickster” Pedro Sánchez, as he has called the President of the Government, after now, he said, he seems to be in favor of the most voted list governing, “not like in 2023”, in allusion to the position defended by the Executive leader in the last general elections.
From Conde Duque, the Madrid mayor has supported the president of his party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, by maintaining that “one cannot play with a trickster, one cannot trust a trickster”, with the governability of the most voted list as a backdrop.
The leader of the Popular Party has recalled that Alberto Núñez Feijóo invited to sign in writing, in the 2023 elections, a commitment for the most voted list to govern, but that Pedro Sánchez “did not want to sign”. In that context, he has questioned that the President of the Government now demands confidence in a position that, in his opinion, he rejected then.
“Is he really going to complain now that we don't trust him? We cannot trust him because he is a trickster, because he lost the elections, because he made pacts with everyone, because there was no progressive majority. Junts is not progressive, let's be realistic”, José Luis Martínez-Almeida remarked.
The mayor has insisted that, with an interlocutor whom he defines as a “trickster”, commitments cannot be assumed, because, he said, he knows that he will break them. “With a trickster we cannot assume commitments because we know that he will absolutely defraud all of them. We have proof of what Sánchez is, how Sánchez acts and how Sánchez behaves. And now he is going to propose that the most voted list govern, which he precisely rejected in a debate in 2023”, he reproached.
Almeida attacks Sánchez's explanation about Zapatero's jewels
Asked about Pedro Sánchez's intervention in ‘La revuelta’, on TVE, and about the justification he offered about José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's jewels, José Luis Martínez-Almeida criticized the President of the Government's argument for considering it childish.
“If what you have is a safe in your house and you have the jewels in the safe in your house, it is impossible that you don't know it”, said the mayor of Madrid, questioning the explanation given by the head of the Executive in relation to that matter.
“In the case of Zapatero, the excuse Sánchez gives is so childish, so childish. I think he said that he was given a revolver in Istanbul. Does he have it in a safe at home or has he left it in deposit where he has to leave it? When one receives a gift of those characteristics, you either leave it in deposit or you keep it in a safe. But if you have it in a safe, you are a scoundrel, in my opinion”, replied José Luis Martínez-Almeida.
He added that Pedro Sánchez is “defending a person who has committed a tax crime”, because, in his opinion, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has admitted to committing a tax crime by acknowledging that it was a gift from Saudi Arabia and not having paid taxes on those jewels. “He cannot pretend such a childish argument and take Spaniards for what he is taking them for”, he pointed out.
The mayor of Madrid concluded his criticisms by focusing on the government activity of the President of the Executive, as opposed to his private life, and assured that Spaniards are more interested in knowing what he has done as president than in his marital sphere. “Spaniards are more interested in knowing what he has done as President of the Government than his intimate life in the sphere of his marriage. Some may find it very funny, very lighthearted and Sánchez's closeness. What I find is an insult to Spaniards to say in that program that a million homes have been built, among other things, because he lies, deliberately and consciously”, he condemned.
