The board of directors of Indra has appointed Ángel Simón as non-executive chairman in replacement of Ángel Escribano, following the resignation of the latter on Wednesday in an extraordinary board meeting. The decision was officially communicated this Thursday to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
The appointment comes after the State Society of Industrial Participations, Indra's main shareholder with a 28% of the capital, formally proposed the replacement. According to the company, the decision has the favorable report of the appointments, remuneration and corporate governance committee.
Simón has an extensive career in business management, especially in the field of urban services and water. He was CEO of CriteriaCaixa between January 2024 and April 2025. Previously, he led Aguas de Barcelona (Agbar) and held relevant positions at Veolia and Suez.
His arrival at the presidency of Indra represents a strategic shift in the leadership of one of the main Spanish technology companies, with a presence in key sectors such as defense, transport, and digital transformation. Meanwhile, the current CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, will continue as chief executive and will assume all executive functions.
Escribano's resignation comes after weeks of growing internal pressure. In a letter sent to the board, the now former president stated that the recent situation had generated personal wear and tear and a risk to the company's stability. “I cannot allow my continuity to interfere with the stability of the company, its professionals, and the trust of its investors,” Escribano stated. Likewise, he stressed that his decision is an exercise in responsibility: “Prioritizing Indra's interest above any personal consideration, I have decided to submit my resignation.”
