The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has requested the Supreme Court to declare in writing within the framework of the judicial procedure related to the so-called mask case. The request is based on the possibility that members of the Government have to respond in writing when they are summoned in a judicial process.
The request has been filed before the high court within the case investigating alleged irregularities in the purchase of sanitary material during the COVID-19 pandemic. Torres appears in the procedure in relation to events dating back to his time as president of the Government of the Canary Islands.
In his brief to the Supreme Court, the minister proposes to avail himself of this procedural mechanism provided for members of the Executive, which allows them to answer in writing to the questions posed by the court instead of appearing personally to testify.
The mask case investigates contracts awarded during the first months of the pandemic for the acquisition of sanitary material. The Supreme Court must now decide whether it accepts Torres' request and allows his statement to be made in writing within the procedure judicial that is being followed for these facts.
