Ángel Victor Torres asks to wait for the report on the Ceuta crisis: "Talking about it now is making conjectures"

The Minister of Territorial Policy, Ángel Víctor Torres, has called for caution regarding reports pointing to the existence of a police report that would attribute the organization of the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta on July 30 and 31 to Moroccan forces. In statements to RNE, Torres insisted that the full content of the document is not yet officially known and defended waiting to have it before drawing conclusions. "To talk about it now is to make conjectures," he said, while supporting the request for explanations made by the Minister of Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to the Director General of the Police.

Torres stressed that the document referred to in the journalistic reports must be formally identified, signed, and clearly state its dates and the moment it was prepared or made available to police officials. For this reason, he considered it logical for Marlaska to demand to know exactly what is behind what has been published and when the Police became aware of this information. "We don't know what it says," warned the minister, who defended that, once the report can be known with all guarantees, it must be done with "absolute transparency" so that its content can be assessed.

The minister was also asked about the concentrations called this Wednesday in different Spanish city councils coinciding with Ceuta Day. Torres questioned whether the initiative could become a mobilization against the Government and pointed directly to Vox for having raised that approach. "It is a collegiate body, but there are up to 8 political organizations that have criticized it as a unilateral decision," he expressed. In his opinion, the Executive has been working since the beginning of the crisis and the call should be understood as a show of support for the people of Ceuta, not as a tool for partisan confrontation. The initiative has, in any case, generated discrepancies within the FEMP itself due to the way it was promoted.

Against this interpretation, the president of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), María José García-Pelayo, has defended the solidarity nature of the concentrations and has rejected that they were born with the purpose of attacking the PSOE or the Government. García-Pelayo explained that the initiative arose after her visit to Ceuta on August 25, where she was able to see firsthand the situation of the camps, the beaches, and the conditions that both migrants and residents are experiencing. "When someone steps on the ground (...) it is impossible to look the other way," she defended, asserting that the objective of the mobilization is to convey to the autonomous city "our warmth, our support, and our affection."

The FEMP leader also reproached the PSOE for having interpreted the call as a mobilization against the Government when, according to her version, neither she nor the federation initially raised the initiative in those terms. García-Pelayo has maintained that the socialist reaction shows that "they have taken the concentration as a mobilization against them" and has defended that the debate should focus on the situation that Ceuta is experiencing. The concentrations, supported by hundreds of municipalities, are held this September 2, coinciding with the day of the autonomous city, in a context of strong political tension over the management of the migratory crisis.
