The Deputy Secretary of Autonomous and Local Coordination and Electoral Analysis of the PP, Elías Bendodo, on Wednesday lashed out against Pedro Sánchez's Government following the forest fires that have marked recent days, especially the one in Almería, which leaves 13 fatalities. The popular leader stated that Andalusia would have "reasons" to "turn its back" on the president because, as he denounced, the Executive "has withdrawn planes from firefighting." However, he clarified that Andalusians will not act in that way.
In an interview with RNE, Bendodo explained that, although he believes there are reasons to reproach the Executive's actions, citizens expect administrations to be able to collaborate in situations like the one experienced in recent days. He pointed out that people want politicians to "reach an agreement" and project an image of "unity and joint work."
The popular leader also took the opportunity to hold the President of the Government responsible for the current political climate. In his opinion, "the Government only survives from that distance," which is why he defended that "it is Sánchez with the rest of Spain who does not bring positions closer." Likewise, Bendodo assured that the Popular Party finds it "easier" to understand Vox than the Executive. In that vein, he stated that Pedro Sánchez "has swallowed the Socialist Party" and expressed his conviction that, after the next elections, a PSOE "much better than this one" will emerge.
