The First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, begins this Tuesday a new official visit to the United States, the fourth in little more than two years, with the aim of strengthening commercial relations and consolidating the Spanish economic presence in one of its main international partners. The agenda combines institutional meetings, business forums and participation in the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB).
The trip starts in Boston, a city where the Government plans to open a new commercial office, Spain's eighth in US territory, as part of its strategy of business internationalization. Before traveling, Cuerpo will virtually participate in a meeting organized by ICEX Spain Export and Investments, alongside prominent figures such as the governor of Massachusetts and the mayor of Boston.
On Wednesday the vice president will hold a working breakfast with investors from strategic sectors such as robotics, neurotechnology or the chemical industry. The objective is to attract investment towards Spain and consolidate the interest of US companies in expanding their operations in the country. According to the Ministry of Economy, these areas represent key opportunities in the Spanish productive transformation.
In addition, Cuerpo will personally meet with the Governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, to explore new avenues of economic cooperation. Massachusetts has become a priority destination for Spanish companies, especially in areas such as energy, financial services, and life sciences. Trade between this region and Spain reaches approximately 800 million dollars annually, reflecting a solid and growing relationship.
The day in Boston will culminate with an intervention at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where the minister will participate in a talk alongside economist Daron Acemoglu. The debate will address the global economic challenges and Europe's role in a context of geopolitical and technological transformation.
On Thursday, the Spanish delegation will travel to Washington D.C. to participate in the spring meetings of the IMF and the World Bank. In this international forum, Cuerpo will represent Spain in key debates on global growth, financial stability, and the challenges facing both advanced and emerging economies.
