The PSOE does not fear the party's indictment while studying possible legal actions against Leire Díez

The Executive believes that the erosion suffered by the PSOE is not real because everything is due to an "exaggeration" and because the situation does not reach the level of the "scandal that the PP intends to portray."

In Ferraz, they expect Zapatero to clarify the information in his statement next week at the Audiencia Nacional, although they do not maintain communication with him regarding his defense. Meanwhile, they retain confidence in the federal manager, Ana María Fuentes.

Neither one thing nor the other. It is not proven, as the leader of the Popular Party in Congress, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, affirmed today, that Pedro Sánchez “will go down in history as the instigator, financier, and beneficiary of the most serious corruption case in history,” nor does the situation allow for the air of normality that is being tried to impose from La Moncloa Palace.

From the Executive, they consider that the erosion suffered by the PSOE is not real because everything responds to an “exaggeration” and because the situation does not reach the level of the “scandal that the PP intends to portray.”

At the core of the President of the Government, and also at the PSOE headquarters, they are waiting for statements to be made in the coming days that will allow “clarifying” the information related to different cases. Among them, the judicial investigation in which former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has been mentioned and which has led to his summons to testify at the Audiencia Nacional as an investigated party on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Also the so-called Leire case, in which the party president, Cristina Narbona, is called to testify.

They do not fear the PSOE's indictment

Almost on the run, in the corridors of Congress, Minister Óscar López responded with a resounding “no fear at all” when asked about the possibility that the PSOE could be indicted for illegal financing.

The truth is that the information available on the table does not, at least for the moment, paint that scenario. Whether money was used improperly for the alleged sewers to work or whether cash was moved to make hand payments that were not legitimate, will be something that the investigations will have to determine, but for now nothing points to a system of irregular financing comparable to that of the Popular Party's slush fund.

“We are not at that stage,” they point out from the Ferraz leadership. “Everything is adjusted to the law: to electoral law, to audits, and to the Court of Accounts,” they assure, convinced that the investigations will only serve to accredit the ordinary functioning of the party structure indicated in some of the ongoing judicial procedures.

The socialist leadership does not maintain a dialogue with Zapatero regarding his defense, but it does convey the "tranquility" of Cristina Narbona, who will testify on July 10. They explain that the historic leader has never hidden her past relationship with Leire Díez, who on occasion asked her for advice on issues related to the communication of different professional projects. And they add that this "does not make her an accomplice or guilty of anything." In the same vein, the party leadership also maintains its confidence in the work of the PSOE's federal manager, Ana María Fuentes, and rejects any suspicion about her performance at the head of the organization's economic management.

The box with Cerdán's belongings

In a few days, it will be one year since the former Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, requested his resignation from membership and handed over his deputy's seat.

It was the President of the Government himself, Pedro Sánchez, who asked him to leave socialist militancy.

Cerdán left, but some of his belongings —already seized by the UCO— remained stored in a sealed box at the Ferraz headquarters. They were not deposited in any safe, but today we can confirm that the PSOE decided to keep them in case, given the known information and the progress of the various investigations, they could be required at some point by the judicial authorities. In fact, in the party they maintain that the decision not to get rid of this material responds precisely to the policy of collaboration that they claim to have maintained since the first information about the case began to be known.

An aspect that they highlight as a sign of the collaboration they have decided to maintain "from the first moment."

The PP maintains the pressure

Explanations that do not convince the Popular Party. Feijóo's party continues to demand early elections, a possibility that Sánchez again ruled out this Wednesday.

According to Génova, the President of the Government has begun to compare himself with other unrelated corruption cases, something they interpret as a way of implicitly assuming the seriousness of the events affecting his political environment.
