Koldo García exercised his right not to testify this Thursday before the Audiencia Nacional in the investigation related to the mask contracts awarded during the pandemic in Baleares. The former advisor to the former Minister of Transport appeared before judge Ismael Moreno, although he finally chose to remain silent while the appeal filed by his defense is resolved.
García's legal strategy involves trying to get this part of the case archived, considering that the facts were already analyzed in the procedure instructed by the Tribunal Supremo. His lawyer, Leticia de la Hoz, maintains that both the Prosecutor's Office and the popular prosecution already incorporated these contracts into their final conclusions and that they were even subject to evidence during the judicial process.
The defense also argues that during the trial, statements from political leaders such as Ángel Víctor Torres and Francina Armengol were already requested, which, in their opinion, demonstrates that the matter was already judicially addressed. Therefore, they consider that keeping this line of investigation open would mean duplicating actions on the same facts.
According to what the lawyer explained to the media after the appearance, if the Criminal Chamber finally rejects the appeal and keeps the investigation alive, Koldo García would be willing to testify voluntarily later. Until then, the former advisor has preferred not to answer questions related to the mask contracts in Baleares and Canarias.
The investigation now continues with new appearances scheduled at the Audiencia Nacional. The next to appear before the judge will be the businessman and alleged commission agent Víctor de Aldama, summoned for next May 21 within the round of statements linked to the latest reports prepared by the Unidad Central Operativa (UCO) of the Guardia Civil.
