The investigation of the so-called 'Leire case' faces this Wednesday a new day of statements in the Audiencia Nacional. Judge Santiago Pedraz has summoned as witnesses the lawyer of former commissioner José Manuel Villarejo and businessman Joaquín Parra, two appearances that seek to clarify several of the episodes that have emerged during the instruction of the case.
The interrogation of Villarejo's lawyer will focus on the alleged offer of a pact that, according to the investigation, Leire Díez would have conveyed to him with the aim of obtaining information related to judges, prosecutors, the Government of Mariano Rajoy or the leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
The former commissioner's lawyer had already explained to the Civil Guard that the former socialist militant had told him about a possible agreement with the Prosecutor's Office, assuring that he never gave credibility to that proposal. In that statement, he maintained that he had not requested any meeting because the conversations seemed "very little credible" and "very fanciful" to him. The case also includes a message attributed to Leire Díez, sent in February 2025, in which she communicated to the lawyer: "I'll tell you. The FGE will receive you. Now I'll tell you what he told me," a point on which he will also be questioned during his appearance.
The witness who pointed to an alleged "PSOE safe house"
After the statement of Villarejo's lawyer, the judge will hear Joaquín Parra, businessman and former president of Club Deportivo Badajoz, who had already stated to investigators that Leire Díez would have offered him help in his judicial proceedings in exchange for providing information or contacts that could discredit magistrate Beatriz Biedma, instructor of the investigation into David Sánchez. Likewise, Parra had assured that he put Díez in contact with former judge Luis José Sáenz de Tejada and had reported that the meeting had taken place in a property in Madrid that the former socialist militant would have defined as a "PSOE safe house for holding meetings."
The appearances are part of the proceedings opened by Pedraz to clarify the existence of an alleged plot aimed at influencing judicial investigations with political repercussions. In the procedure, Leire Díez and the former Secretary of Organization of the PSOE, Santos Cerdán, are listed as investigated.
