The investigation opened against former socialist militant Leire Díez will continue, at least, for another six months, after the head of the Court of Instruction of Plaza de Castilla, Arturo Zamarriego, has agreed to extend the investigation considering that there are still pending proceedings, a decision that comes before the upcoming July 24 marks one year since the opening of the case.
Among these actions is the analysis of the audios provided by prosecutor Ignacio Stampa, which will be examined by the Scientific Police to determine if they could have been manipulated. The magistrate understands that this report is essential before making new decisions about the direction of the case.
It will be once he receives that analysis when he decides whether to keep the procedure in Plaza de Castilla or attend to the request made by the judge of the Audiencia Nacional Santiago Pedraz, who last June claimed the investigation considering that it could be related to the case he is investigating about an alleged plot aimed at influencing police and judicial investigations that would affect the PSOE or the Government.
The procedure that continues in Plaza de Castilla investigates Leire Díez, businessman Javier Pérez Dolset and journalist Pere Rusiñol for alleged crimes of bribery and influence peddling. Likewise, the investigation led by Pedraz continues to advance and this Wednesday the president of the PSOE, Cristina Narbona, and prosecutors Diego Villafañe and Beatriz López, who held meetings with the former socialist militant, have testified.
