The judge of the Audiencia Nacional, Santiago Pedraz, has charged this Thursday Mercedes González, director of the Guardia Civil, and the deputy operational director (DAO), Manuel Llamas, for their links with the PSOE's sewer. The decision comes minutes after the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office requested the indictment of the leaders of the Armed Institute for prevarication and obstruction of justice.
To Mercedes, who held more than one meeting with Leire Díez, the judge attributes crimes of prevarication and obstruction of justice, in relation to the maneuvers of the former PSOE militant, to investigate the UCO for possible leaks in cases affecting the Government.
The Popular Party, as leader of the accusations, requested on Wednesday from the Audiencia Nacional the indictment of Mercedes González, "for her alleged collaboration with the PSOE's sewers". The PP acts as a unified private prosecution in the SEPI case, "after it was confirmed that Mercedes González held three meetings with Leire Díez".
Mercedes González acknowledged in her appearance before the Senate's investigation committee her meetings with Leire Díez, which she reduced to "coffees" about the "personal situation" and about the destination of Rubén Villalba, the commander linked to the Koldo case. She also reduced the number of meetings, from three to the two she acknowledges, and assured that they took place in bars or cafeterias and never in her office or in dependencies of the General Directorate of the Guardia Civil. "They were short meetings, no more than a coffee, and she never asked me to stop or hinder ongoing investigations," she highlighted about Leire Díaz.
After the indictment of Mercedes González became known, the PP has spoken out and calls for the resignation of both political officials of the Guardia Civil and puts the focus on the Minister of the Interior, for having lied, covered up, and supported the now indicted director general of the Guardia Civil: "They cannot continue for another minute", they exclaim. They criticize that precisely those who should prosecute crimes are allegedly the ones who have committed them. "It is extremely serious", they add. Furthermore, they have commented that: "The judicial calendar makes it clear that Sánchez went from wanting to colonize institutions to trying to destroy them from within." Finally, they warn that: "Nothing will save this agonizing Government from collapse, because time can only increase "the gangrene". It is not about one or two rotten apples, but it is the one, the one and the boss, the one who is at the head of this criminal organization".
