The former PP councilwoman of Móstoles who reported the town's mayor, Manuel Bautista, ratified yesterday, June 29, the complaint filed against the mayor, detailing to the investigating judge that there were three alleged sexual propositions of which she was the object and whose rejection resulted in alleged workplace harassment. The appearance, which lasted about three hours, was held before the judge of the Section of Violence against Women of the Court of First Instance of Móstoles. The complaint is directed against the mayor and against the party itself for alleged crimes of sexual harassment, workplace harassment, injuries, coercion, disclosure of secrets, and assault against moral integrity.
The complainant's lawyer, Antonio Suárez-Valdés, described his client's appearance as "an absolutely credible, coherent, and very appropriate statement," and highlighted that the former councilwoman "was able to illustrate to her honor how the mayor of Móstoles made sexual propositions to her on three different occasions, in a short period of time." According to the former councilwoman, she rejected three proposals, and as a result of that rejection, a process of alleged workplace harassment began.
In relation to the alleged propositions, the lawyer indicated that: "They occurred in the intimate sphere of two people, in a car, generating a feeling of helplessness." Furthermore, he stressed that his client declared that on the first occasion she rejected the approach thinking it could be a misunderstanding, that on the second occasion she was much more forceful, and that on the third occasion she stated totally and absolutely that she was not sexually attracted to him in any way and that it should be the last time he made such an offer.
The former councilwoman brought these facts to the attention of the Popular Party, although according to her, "not the slightest attention was paid to her." Furthermore, she declared having felt coerced by the interlocutors designated by the Community of Madrid to address the situation. She also stressed that her request to activate a protocol for the prevention of sexual and workplace harassment was not attended to.
In response, the defense detailed that proceedings have been requested within the complaint, such as the testimony as a witness of the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, as she was the one questioned in relation to the activation of the sexual and labor harassment protocol. The admission of the complaint has already been appealed for reform by the mayor, who has requested the annulment of the resolution that gave rise to the proceedings and has demanded the immediate dismissal of the case due to essential procedural rules having been circumvented.
The mayor claims to have suffered a situation of isolation and harassment both in the City Council and within the Popular Party. Likewise, he assures that he conveyed his complaints to leaders of the political party without obtaining an effective response. Furthermore, for his part, Manuel Bautista has defended his innocence and has described the complaint as a political witch hunt, assuring that he will demonstrate in court the falsity of the facts attributed to him.
