The Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Madrid has joined the appeal filed by Begoña Gómez's defense against the dismissal of her complaint against the ultra agitator Vito Quiles for the incident that occurred in a restaurant in Las Rozas. The court had agreed to the dismissal, considering that the available recordings did not prove facts with criminal relevance, but the Public Prosecutor's Office now understands that closing the procedure without carrying out further proceedings is premature.
According to the document, to which EFE has had access, the Prosecutor's Office considers that the parties have the right to request evidence in defense of their claims and does not object to the court taking statements from Quiles as the accused, from Gómez and one of her companions as complainants, and from two other witnesses. The defense also requests that the restaurant provide the terrace recordings corresponding to April 29, the day the episode occurred.
The complaint was filed after Quiles located the wife of the Prime Minister at the establishment and addressed her with questions while recording her. The judge noted in his order that the alleged jostling reported was not proven, nor that the agitator put his arm around Gómez, although he did state that he entered the premises with the intention of approaching her and that a companion was the one who ended up pulling him away.
The case thus reopens politically around a figure who has made harassment of public officials and people of institutional relevance a form of media exposure. Quiles has already been preventively expelled from Congress along with Bertrand Ndongo by decision of the Bureau of the Lower House, pending the files opened against both. Now it will be the court that must decide whether to maintain the dismissal or accept the proceedings requested by Begoña Gómez and supported by the Prosecutor's Office.
