King Felipe VI will have a new racing boat to compete in the international sailing circuit. The vessel, whose cost is around six million euros, will replace the historic ‘Aifos’, with which the monarch has participated for years in different competitions.
The Ministry of Defense, through the Logistics Support Headquarters of the Navy, has approved the acquisition of a new vessel valued at one million euros from the Catalan company David Mas Yacht Equipment SL, as reported by Diario de Mallorca.
Although the boat will be destined for sports competition, its use will not be exclusively for the King. The vessel will also be used by the Spanish Navy for training and instruction tasks, allowing sailors and crews to train in navigation and regatta maneuvers on a high-performance platform.
The new sailboat will be a TP52 (Transpac 52), one of the most competitive models in the professional sailing circuit. This type of boat is designed for high-level regattas and participates in international championships such as the 52 Super Series, one of the most prestigious sailing circuits.
The project has private funding from a group of businessmen and sponsors linked to the nautical world, who are promoting the construction of the boat to maintain the monarch's presence in top-level competitions. The sailboat will be managed in the environment of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, one of the main centers of competitive sailing in Spain.
