The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, attempted this Thursday to turn the vote in the Congress of Deputies into a direct political warning against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. The motion promoted by the PP passed with 178 votes in favor and urged the head of the Executive to submit to a vote of confidence or to assume responsibilities with his resignation due to the corruption cases affecting the PSOE and its circle.

Feijóo appeared before the media in the corridors of Congress and insisted that the vote marks a turning point. The popular leader assured that Sánchez is now “against the absolute majority of the Congress of Deputies” and reproached the Government for downplaying an initiative that, although not binding, does leave an uncomfortable parliamentary picture for Moncloa.

The key data was the vote of Junts, which joined Vox, Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party to pass the proposal. Feijóo did not want to take a motion of no confidence for granted, but he did leave a message for Carles Puigdemont's party: “I hope that everyone continues to maintain the coherence of this vote”. The PP knows that without Junts there is no possible arithmetic, and that is why Génova will try to politically stretch Thursday's result.

The popular president also responded to the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, who had asked him for explanations about the rental of his home in Madrid. Feijóo assured that he and his partner pay for the apartment, and accused the minister of launching “defamations” to divert attention from the motion approved in Congress. “They are wrong about me if they think I am going to stop denouncing the corruption of the Government, the president and his party,” he stated.

In response to those words, Puente immediately replied on his X social media profile, insisting to the PP leader that he "make available to the public the evidence that proves he pays for the home he resides in."
