Alberto Núñez Feijóo asked this Sunday in Barcelona for Catalonia to promote a large majority to produce a change of Government in the general elections of November 29, while launching a frontal attack against Pedro Sánchez with his slogan: “Decency yes, Sánchez no”.

The president of the PP and candidate for the presidency of the Government made that call in an event held at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya, accompanied by Alejandro Fernández, president of the Catalan PP, and by Xavier García Albiol, mayor of Badalona and candidate for Congress for Barcelona.

A message of management against a Government he accuses of lying

Feijóo defended the need for an Executive that, he said, knows how to manage, and contrasted that profile with that of the current Government with a list of promises and reproaches about pensions, health, education and housing.

“Pensions, yes, of course. Jewels in safe deposit boxes, no. Public health, yes. Chistorras, no. Public education, yes. Bribes, no. Housing, yes. Apartments for a minister's lovers, no”, he stated. The phrase sought to condense his criticism, although it did not in itself provide any new data on the cases or complaints to which he alluded.

The popular leader accused the Government of chaining “one lie with another and one scandal with the next” and rejected that the PSOE is using a strategy of fear against the PP. He also maintained that the Executive cannot continue to warn about its adversaries while, in his opinion, it has put its hand in the pockets of Spaniards.

“They covered up the lies about Morocco with the lies about housing. They covered up the lies about housing with the lies about pensions,” Feijóo said, without specifying at the event what specific facts supported that sequence of accusations.

Housing, resignation in the PSOE and pressure for November 29

In another part of his speech, Feijóo attacked Sánchez for accusing others of lying in the campaign. “The master of lies giving lessons in truth”, he affirmed, before adding that the president of the Government “has a lot of nerve”.

The leader of the PP also referred to the resignation of the former PSOE spokeswoman Montse Mínguez and maintained that the party made her resign for being “a hypocrite”. He then ironized about the effect that, in his opinion, this reveals within the socialist formation: “How bad must they see it for one of the few who was not indicted to resign?”

Feijóo extended the criticism to the area of housing and assured that the Government cannot give lessons on that matter. He said that the Executive points to property owners, but, in his version, tolerates situations that it condemns for others.

He also maintained that Sánchez has not built "any" housing during his eight years in office and called for pushing hard to win the elections. "On November 29 you are going to be out on the street," he concluded, while insisting that "everything will be known."

The PP candidate closed his speech by rejecting that the coalition for the Senate between the PSOE and Frente Amplio —which he called a "coalition of desperate people"— can stop the conservative bloc. For now, the struggle remains open until the election on November 29.
