The Popular Party, led by Alberto Nuñez Feijóo, has requested before the Central Electoral Board (JEC) the suspension of the use of the miDNI application in the ballot boxes electoral processes for the identification of voters at the polling station. According to sources from Génova 13, the request is based on the “doubts and social alarm” generated after it became known that it is not mandatory to verify identity through an updated QR code.

From the PP they warn that this element is key, since “it is what would serve as a guarantee and mechanism of authenticity of the document”. In this sense, they question the reliability of the current system if a verification in real time that confirms the validity of the voter's identity is not implemented.

Furthermore, the popular party proposes that, should the use of the application be maintained, it be guaranteed that each polling station has a device with access to miDNI. This device should allow for “adequate and sufficient” verification by means of the QR code, through a secure and real-time communication with the servers of the Ministry of Interior”.

The same sources maintain that “the Spanish electoral system works well” and criticize that the Government's initiative, “without the necessary verifications, is only generating problems and distrust.” Likewise, they emphasize that in other European countries electronic identification mechanisms are not used for in-person voting: "Democracy is built and defended every day, which is why political parties, far from generating doubts, must dispel them and work to offer all the guarantees when voting", they conclude.
