The general secretary of the PP, Miguel Tellado, has downplayed this Saturday the appointment of the Minister of Economy, Trade and Business, Carlos Cuerpo, as the new first vice president of the Government in replacement of María Jesús Montero, and has warned that it is a “trap” to present him as a technical and “meek” profile.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced last Thursday the designation of Cuerpo to occupy the vice-presidency in relief of Montero, PSOE candidate in the upcoming Andalusian elections. Likewise, he appointed Arcadi España, until now Secretary of State for Territorial Policy, as Minister of Finance.
During his speech at the second interparliamentary meeting of the PP held in Ourense, Tellado maintained that with this reshuffle the Executive intends to convey that “everything is going well” by appointing a “moderate” and “meek” vice-president, although, in his opinion, the only change Spain needs is that of the head of the Executive himself.
“After the defeat of Pedro Sánchez, a great process of national reconstruction must come that will have to be undertaken as soon as we arrive at the Moncloa Palace”, he affirmed.
Along these lines, Tellado has defended that the PP has “to defeat Sánchez to recover Spain” and do so with a sufficient advantage that allows guaranteeing political stability, something that, according to him, has not occurred in the last eight years.
