Alberto Núñez Feijóo demanded this Wednesday an immediate governmental investigation and a judicial one to clarify the railway accident in Urda (Toledo), in which at least 68 people have died. The leader of the PP has asked that both investigations be carried out "with all means and without interference"

In an institutional statement at the national headquarters of the PP, in Genoa, Feijóo has extended his condolences to the victims' families and has insisted that citizens have the right to know the state of infrastructure and railway safety systems.

The popular leader also demanded information on the measures adopted since the Adamuz (Córdoba) railway accident, registered in January, and on possible warnings received since then. "Spain has the right to know what is happening with its infrastructure, what state the tracks and safety systems are in, what warnings were received since Adamuz, and what measures were adopted," he stated.

Feijóo demands explanations about railway safety

The president of the PP has defended that the investigation must clarify what happened and determine what failed in the Urda accident. To do this, he has demanded that the Government promote an immediate investigation, parallel to the judicial one, and has insisted that the process must be carried out without political interference.

Feijóo has avoided, however, entering into the debate about possible political responsibilities. "Today is not the day to discuss political responsibilities," he said, before stressing that the priority must be to clarify the facts and offer security to citizens.

The popular leader considered a "complete and independent" review of the entire railway network "unavoidable," with the aim of knowing the state of the tracks and safety systems. His request comes after the collision between a Renfe AVE train and an Iryo convoy in Toledo, which has left at least 68 dead and dozens injured.

The PP joins the minutes of silence in all city councils

The Popular Party has suspended its campaign agenda and will gather this Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in city councils across Spain, where a minute of silence called by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) will be observed in memory of the victims of the railway accident.

Feijóo has confirmed that he will be present at the event in Madrid and has assured that his party will accompany the victims and their families as a sign of mourning. "With pain, with solidarity and with demand," he summarized when referring to the gesture of homage.

The popular leader concluded by expressing his wish for the injured to evolve favorably and conveying his condolences to the families of the deceased, while the investigation continues to clarify the causes of the accident.
