The leader of the Popular Party (PP) and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured that his party will send auditors and representatives to "all polling stations" on November 29, and has warned that "there is no democratic cleanliness if there is no census cleanliness".
In an interview on esRadio, the president of the PP reacted a day after the Supreme Court (TS) rejected the Government's appeal to lift the precautionary suspension of the so-called "grandchildren's law", a resolution that prevents those naturalized by this means from voting in the general elections, except for those who can prove that their ancestors suffered exile.
Feijóo has described the high court's position as "something elemental", pointing out that he has nothing against nationality for "the grandchildren of exiles, as the law says", but added that the document cannot be given nor "passports given away" to those who do not fit that assumption. In that context, he alluded to the instruction of Minister Óscar Puente's sister and maintained that this "any court of first instance would say".
The popular leader also recalled that the Central Electoral Board (JEC) had already warned that this instruction was against the law, and stressed that this body is the one that "must ensure the cleanliness of the census". "There is no democratic cleanliness if there is no census cleanliness", he insisted.
Criticism of the PSOE and defense of the value of the Spanish passport
Feijóo has accused the Executive of incurring in "another of the traps of Sanchismo" by attributing to the PP a position contrary to granting the vote to the grandchildren of exiles. According to him, this reading is "false", because his party rejects that an "instruction against a law" has subsequently been approved to extend this right indiscriminately to any person with an ancestor, "whether it be their great-great-grandparent or whatever".
"I have to give value to the Spanish passport," Feijóo said, before adding that if "the most important legal instrument a nation has" is not protected, the system "breaks down".
The PP mobilizes: auditors and representatives at all polling stations
Regarding his party's strategy for the general elections, the PP leader has assured that he does not know what the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will do, but he does know what he and his organization will do. "I am going to work until the last moment, including the day of reflection," he said, to emphasize that the PP's auditors and representatives "will be at all polling stations" on election day.
Feijóo has stated that the party is prepared after "so many traps", "so many coercions", "so many manipulations", "so many sewers" and "so many bribes". In that vein, he has asked Spaniards to "not be fooled" because "this is an opportunity", "an opportunity to change" or "an opportunity to fall into Sánchez's abyss".
The "only democratic eviction" is to remove Sánchez from Moncloa
Feijóo has indicated that the Government, "no matter how much it tries to talk about evictions", the "only eviction in Spain" is "to remove Sánchez from Moncloa". "Yes, a democratic eviction," he stated.
Demand for explanations from Sánchez and criticism of the November 11 strike
During the interview, Alberto Núñez Feijóo also reiterated his request for explanations from Pedro Sánchez regarding the information known about the Badajoz judge Beatriz Biedma, and recalled that "the financing of the PSOE" and "the sewers" of that party are being investigated. "Who gave instructions to the specific people to get rid of the Badajoz judge?" he asked, before stating that a President of the Government should come out "immediately" to clarify it.
Feijóo also criticized the Government for wanting to "stir up the streets" before the elections when, in his opinion, it cannot "step on the streets". "The Government is very agitated, very scared, with an enormous survival instinct," he affirmed.
Asked about the general strike called by the unions for November 11, the president of the PP said that "that's their business" because, in his opinion, they have "made a mistake" with that call and are "losing legitimacy". He also quoted the Deputy Secretary General of the PSOE, María Jesús Montero, stating that she has recognized that "it is a strike against the opposition".
Feijóo concluded by recalling that, due to his previous responsibilities, he maintained a good relationship with the unions, and stressed that those he knew "did not do this". In his opinion, the streets and citizens must express themselves "clearly, forcefully and massively" at the polls on November 29.
