The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, assured this Sunday at an electoral rally held in Calatayud that, if he comes to power, he will promote a Law of Democratic Regeneration that will prevent pardons from being granted, such as the one the Pedro Sánchez government is processing for the former Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz.
During his speech, Feijóo questioned whether the Government could resort to this measure of grace for a person convicted by the Supreme Court in the exercise of their duties, a possibility he described as an "absolute perversion." The Popular Party leader denounced what he considers a "moral degradation" of the Executive, which he accused of taking advantage of various political and social circumstances to push controversial decisions. In this regard, he stated that these episodes are part of one of the "four chapters" of corruption that, in his opinion, have marked the past week, maintaining that the general interest "is not among the Government's priorities."
Feijóo also argued that "the first requirement to protect freedom is not to depend on a dictatorship," referring to the announcement by businessman Víctor de Aldama, who claims to possess documentation related to Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and alleged irregular financing of the PSOE.Likewise, the PP president recalled the recent resignation from his seat as a deputy by former minister José Luis Ábalos, currently in prison, an event he pointed out as unprecedented in almost five decades of democracy. Feijóo attributed Ábalos's political trajectory to "Sanchismo," highlighting that Pedro Sánchez granted him positions of maximum responsibility in both the Government and the party.
Finally, he has criticized the changes made after Ábalos's departure, both in Congress and in the PSOE and the Ministry of Transport, describing them as a reflection of what he considers the **"summary of Sanchismo."**
