The leader of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has placed this Monday institutional regeneration as one of the axes of his political discourse after announcing what he has called a “legal belt,” an initiative with which he intends to promote changes in the functioning of the State if he reaches the Government.
Feijóo has defined this proposal as an “ethical and moral urgency” and has defended that his intention is to act from the beginning of the legislature without waiting “90 days.” In that framework, he has assured that he would promote a review of public management in which there would be “no carpets, no drawers, nor windows that remain unopened.”
In the field of the electoral system, the popular leader has warned of what he has described as “electoral engineering” in relation to the grandchildren's law, which, he has pointed out, could facilitate the naturalization of around 2.5 million people due to a political interest of Sánchez linked to the results of the next general elections. Along the same lines, he has raised the possibility of addressing in the future an electoral law reform that allows granting a “plus of deputies” to the most voted party, taking as reference systems in force in countries like Greece or Italy.
Feijóo's criticisms have also been directed at the Socialist Party and former president José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. In an interview with 'esRadio', he has maintained that the PSOE is going through a moment of internal weakness and has even described it as a party “dead” and “dead with fear.” About Zapatero, he has stated that "he has gone from being a moral lighthouse to a moral pit" within the socialist space, now placing him as a figure of negative value within the party.
