Felipe VI supports Ceuta on its day after the migratory crisis and proclaims: "The Crown and everyone, with our city"

Felipe VI has conveyed this Wednesday to the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, the "support of all Spain" to the autonomous city in view of the situation it has been experiencing since the massive entry of migrants at the end of July. The King has taken advantage of the celebration of Ceuta Day to appeal for unity and coexistence.

The monarch has spoken directly with Vivas and has expressed his recognition to public servants, volunteers, associations, guilds and representatives of the different religious confessions for the work carried out during the crisis. Casa Real has reported that Felipe VI wanted to accompany the city "in a special way" due to the difficulties it continues to face.

The support has been completed with a message published on Zarzuela's official profiles. "Today, September 2, is Ceuta Day. The Crown and all, with our city. Unity, coexistence and future," the Royal House expressed.

The publication is accompanied by a photograph of the flags of Ceuta, Spain and the European Union in one of the halls of the Zarzuela Palace. The choice of the three ensigns reinforces the Spanish and European character of the autonomous city on a day marked by institutional acts and concentrations called in numerous municipalities.

Felipe VI's message has maintained a tone focused on unity, coexistence and support for the people of Ceuta. Ceuta commemorates its official day this year under exceptional circumstances, little more than a month after more than 70,000 people crossed the border on July 30 and 31.

A committed visit and still without a date

This Wednesday's conversation continues the contact that Felipe VI and Juan Jesús Vivas maintained on August 6 at the Marivent Palace, in Palma. The audience lasted approximately an hour and a half and was mainly dedicated to the situation in Ceuta.

After that meeting, Vivas explained that the King had conveyed the "affection, support and encouragement" of the Crown to the people of Ceuta. He also assured that the monarch was committed to a future visit to the autonomous city, although a date was not specified then either.

Pedro Sánchez has publicly defended that there are "sufficient reasons" for this trip to take place and has assured that it will happen when the necessary conditions are met. The displacement would have to be organized within the institutional coordination between the Government and the Royal Household.

Ceuta received in November 2007 the only visit made by a King and Queen during democracy, starring Juan Carlos I and Sofía. Zarzuela has not yet communicated when the first trip of Felipe VI to the autonomous city will take place.
