Santos Cerdán is considering swapping offices for a truck cabin. The former PSOE Organization Secretary is considering joining a company in Milagro in the coming days, the Navarrese town where he was born and where he has resided since his release from provisional prison.
The possible return to work has been reported by 'Diario de Navarra'. The position would mainly be in Milagro and nearby municipalities, without the need for long journeys. Cerdán could transport goods and cover the vacations of other company employees.
The former socialist leader would have already obtained permission to drive trucks during his youth. To get back behind the wheel, he would need to have completed the Professional Aptitude Certificate renewal course, a mandatory 35-hour training for those who work as drivers.
His return to the labor market would also have an economic aspect. According to sources cited by the Navarrese newspaper, rejoining a workforce could later allow him to access unemployment benefits. The incorporation is not yet confirmed and will depend on the agreement with the company being finalized.
Two open investigations after leaving the PSOE
The possible professional change comes as Cerdán remains pending two judicial proceedings. The Supreme Court is investigating him in the 'Koldo case' for alleged crimes of integration into a criminal organization, bribery, and influence peddling related to an alleged scheme of irregular public works contracts and collection of commissions.
Judge Leopoldo Puente ordered his entry into Soto del Real prison on June 30, 2025, due to the risk of destruction of evidence. Cerdán was released on provisional liberty on November 19, after almost five months in prison, although he retains the withdrawal of his passport, the prohibition from leaving Spain, and the obligation to appear periodically in the Tafalla courts.
The former leader also appears as investigated in the case instructed by Santiago Pedraz in the Audiencia Nacional regarding Leire Díez. The UCO attributes to him an alleged superior role within an operation aimed at obtaining information and neutralizing judicial procedures affecting the PSOE, the Government, or Pedro Sánchez's inner circle. Cerdán rejects that accusation and assures that he never directed any scheme or committed any illegality.
The two investigations remain open and the accusations still need to be proven. Cerdán left the Organization Secretariat, handed in his deputy's credential, and resigned from the PSOE in June 2025. A year later, his next step could begin a few kilometers from the courts where he continues to appear, behind the wheel of a truck on the roads of the Ribera de Navarra.
