In Cáceres, the meteorological conditions of the previous night have been "very favorable" to try to extinguish the Pinofranqueado forest fire declared last Tuesday. And another point in favor of extinguishing this fire has been a drop in temperature and an increase in humidity, according to the mayor of the town, José Luis Azabal.
In statements to EFE, the mayor explained that the extinction teams have done a "good job" and added that in the Nuñomoral area the fire is "in a better situation" than in the Pinofranqueado area. One of the main problems of this fire is located in the hamlet of Aldehuela, an area of difficult access and with steep slopes, according to Azabal, who hopes that aerial means can act during the morning to "take control of the Aldehuela part" and control the fire. For this reason, the mayor has been seen confident that this Thursday will be "quieter" despite having warned that this afternoon variable wind gusts of around 30 kilometers per hour can be expected, something that, according to him, can complicate extinction efforts and favor secondary outbreaks.
Regarding the people who have had to be evacuated, the mayor has indicated that the Caminomorisco student residence is at one hundred percent occupancy, which has made it necessary to enable new places in Nuñomoral and Pinofranqueado. Right now, in Pinofranqueado there are 15 users from Aceitunilla, while in Nuñomoral there are about twenty. Given this, the mayor has said that he hopes the situation will continue to improve throughout the day and that "good news" about the fire can be given late in the day.
The Las Peñas de los Riglos fire
This forest fire in Huesca seems to have finally been stabilized this Thursday, after the "intense work" of the operation deployed since last August 10, the day this fire originated, which has burned, according to the most precise measurements obtained by satellite, 14,500 hectares within a perimeter affecting 18,400. The Government of Aragon has reported that "the night has been calm", with the passage of a storm that has left rainfall of almost 15 liters per square meter in the most active areas of the fire and with a drop in temperatures, which has helped to cool the area.
But despite this improvement, temporary restrictions on access to the perimeter zone will be maintained. Throughout the morning, the return to their homes of the residents of Centenero, Ena, and Botaya, a total of 117 people, will be studied, in addition to the 583 residents from 13 nuclei who were already able to return to their homes yesterday.
The Niebla fire in Huelva
The Ministry of the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía has announced that the fire has been declared controlled this Thursday, after being declared on August 6 and stabilized this past Sunday, after burning some 33,000 hectares. The first vice president of the Junta de Andalucía and Minister of the Presidency, Health, and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, on his social network X, has communicated that the Niebla fire is now controlled and has ended by thanking the work of the entire device participating in the extinction.
