The Secretary of State for Health, Javier Padilla, confirmed this Friday that a person has been preventively transferred to a hospital in Alicante after presenting symptoms compatible with hantavirus after sharing a flight with one of the deceased passengers from the ship MV Hondius. According to Padilla, the affected person mainly presented a cough, although they maintained “general well-being”.
The Ministry of Health immediately activated the health protocol in coordination with the General Directorate of Public Health and the Ministry of Health of the Valencian Community. “Immediately, their preventive and safe transfer to a hospital has been carried out”, said Padilla, who insisted that the authorities are acting under strictly preventive and epidemiological control criteria.
The case occurs amidst a full international operation to manage the outbreak detected on the cruise ship MV Hondius, which keeps under health surveillance passengers from more than twenty countries. Spanish authorities continue coordinated with the European Union and the World Health Organization to control any possible contagion related to the ship.
