The Ministry of Health has launched a new medical evacuation operation to transfer 20 Palestinian minors from the Gaza Strip to Spain, along with 81 family members, with the aim of providing them with healthcare in different hospitals across the country.
The operation foresees their arrival at the Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base, a usual entry point for this type of humanitarian operation, from where they will be referred to healthcare centers based on the clinical needs of each case.
The transfer includes a stopover in Jordan, where the minors will receive initial medical attention before continuing their journey to Spain. The operation is part of an international coordination mechanism involving several government departments, including Defense, Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Inclusion, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Commission's Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC).
Regarding their health status, the minors present various complex pathologies, including traumatic injuries, congenital heart diseases, and renal, ophthalmological, and metabolic diseases. Once in Spanish territory, they will be distributed among hospitals in different autonomous communities according to their medical needs. Their family members will receive accommodation, psychological support, and basic assistance through facilities managed by the Ministry of Inclusion and collaborating entities.
