The historic visit of Pope Leo XIV to Spain concludes this Friday in Tenerife, after having visited Madrid and Barcelona. During the trip, he has promoted a message of vindication of "human dignity" and in favor of migratory policies, having fulfilled the dream of the deceased pontiff Francis, to visit the migrants surviving the most dangerous route in the world, the Canary Route.
One of the last tasks that the Holy Father will carry out in the archipelago is the visit to the Las Raíces migrant reception center, managed by the social work organization Accem for the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security, and Migrations, at 9 in the morning. Two migrants will speak with the Pope.
Subsequently, he will move to the Plaza del Cristo, in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, the seat of the Bishopric of the Nivariense Diocese, where he will hold a meeting with ecclesial and social organizations that work with migrants.
After this meeting, Leo XIV will travel to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the island's capital, where he will tour the streets adorned with flowers in the popemobile until he reaches the city's port.
There he will preside over a multitudinous mass shortly after noon. The president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, Luis Argüello; two Venezuelan cardinals; the bishop of Nouakchott, Víctor Ndiane; and around 300 concelebrants will participate in the celebration.
At the end of the Eucharist, Pope Leo XIV will tour the port area to greet the gathered faithful. Afterwards, he will move to Los Rodeos airport, where, around 2:30 p.m., the farewell ceremony will be held with the presence of Felipe VI, before taking the flight back to Rome.
