The president of ERC, Oriol Junqueras, has responded to the proposal of a left-wing front for the general elections promoted by Gabriel Rufián, in reference to the April 9 event with Irene Montero, and has warned that his party will not accept impositions on how it should contest those elections. He has warned that his party will not allow anyone to impose on it how it should present itself in the general elections and has defended that the party's position in Catalonia is to run under its own acronym. “In Catalonia, ERC runs”, he has stated.
“We will not let anyone impose on us to run alone, that's all we needed,” affirmed Junqueras, who insisted that ERC wants to be part of broad spaces and that the electoral strategy must be decided within the party itself.
The republican leader stressed that his party is committed to agreements with other progressive forces and that any alliance formula must be based on consensus. “We want to build broad spaces,” he reiterated. Junqueras emphasized that ERC will not accept external or internal impositions on its electoral position and that decisions will be made based on the party's criteria.
In this context, Junqueras also referred to the April 9 event planned in Catalonia in which Gabriel Rufián and the Vice President of the Government, Irenen Montero, will participate, and assured that “surely” he will not attend because he has “many important commitments”.
