King Felipe VI demanded this Thursday that the causes of the train accident in Urda, Toledo, be clarified, and that the necessary measures be studied to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again. The monarch appeared before the media after visiting, along with Queen Letizia, the injured who remain hospitalized at the Toledo University Hospital.
"There is evidently an investigation underway. This investigation must determine how and why this catastrophe happened," Felipe VI said at the doors of the center. The head of state added that the measures that need to be adopted "so that this does not happen again" will have to be studied.
The Kings conveyed their support to the patients and their families on a day when the provisional death toll has risen to 74. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning, when a Renfe AVE train hit an Iryo train from behind that was stopped on the same track.

The monarch has expressed his sorrow for the deceased and has emphasized the need to support their loved ones. "At this moment, the most important thing is to accompany and give affection," he stated, before extending that message to the injured and those who remain by their side.
Support for families and gratitude to emergency services
During his speech, Felipe VI thanked the professionals who attended the emergency and those who continue at the scene of the accident. He also acknowledged the work of the health and psychological support teams who care for the injured and accompany families awaiting news.
"As a society, we are once again suffering a very hard blow," lamented the King, who asked to move forward without forgetting the people who have lost their lives. "Let's do it together, united, let's also do it with dignity and rigor," he added.
The Kings remained for about an hour and a half at the University Hospital of Toledo, accompanied, among others, by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and the Minister of Education, Milagros Tolón. According to data provided by the Royal Household during the visit, 50 of the 110 injured treated by the regional health service remained hospitalized and 15 were in critical condition.
The trip to Toledo takes place on the first day of the three days of official mourning decreed by the Government. After visiting the hospital, Felipe VI and Letizia went to the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús Center to accompany relatives awaiting the identification of their loved ones.
