The First Vice President and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, said goodbye this Tuesday to her last Council of Ministers before leaving the Government, on a day marked by emotion and messages of recognition from the rest of the Executive.
The meeting, held at the Moncloa Palace, has served as the closing of a political stage that began in 2018, when Montero joined the Government of Pedro Sánchez after the no-confidence motion that ousted Mariano Rajoy from the government.
Montero's departure from the Executive occurs because she will run in the Andalusian regional elections for the PSOE, called for next May 17, which implies her disengagement from the central Government to focus on the election campaign.
During her farewell, the minister has received recognition from her cabinet colleagues, who have highlighted her role at the head of Treasury in key moments such as the management of the pandemic of COVID-19, the inflationary crisis and the drafting of the General State Budgets.
Before her period in the central Executive, Montero had already held relevant responsibilities as Minister of Finance in the Junta de Andalucía, consolidating her profile as one of the most prominent figures in public economic management.
His/Her departure now opens a new stage both in the Government and in Andalusian politics, where his/her candidacy introduces a new scenario in the elections of May 17.
