Pope Leo XIV has launched a warning against "divisive and polarizing narratives" and identitarian approaches that, in his opinion, offer simple answers to complex problems while fueling social confrontation. During an intervention focused on the future of Europe, the Pontiff defended dialogue, encounter, and coexistence against discourses that foster division.
The Pope's words align with the line that ElConstitucional.es had already anticipated regarding the tone of his visit to Spain. Leo XIV questioned identitarian discourses and narratives that simplify reality through confrontation between blocs, a reflection that can be interpreted as a criticism of those who place national identity as a priority axis of political action.
"Learning not to deny it and to live it as a blessing," affirmed the Pontiff in reference to the complexity of current societies, which he claimed as a richness and not as a threat. In this sense, he asked to avoid those approaches that "seem to clarify everything," but which end up constructing narratives based on enemies, grievances, and permanent confrontations.
Leo XIV linked this challenge with Europe's historical role and its ability to remain relevant in the world. In his opinion, the continent will only be able to remain "young" if it preserves a collective mission capable of inspiring new generations and addressing present challenges through openness, understanding, and cooperation.
