The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has assured that Spanish military bases have not been used “at all” in the operation carried out by the United States and Israel in Iran.

In an interview on Canal 24 Horas de RTVE, Albares explained that the operation of these facilities is governed by a "very clear" treaty, which delimits their perimeter and establishes that they cannot be used outside that framework or outside the principles contained in the Charter of the United Nations. "They have not been used nor will they be used for anything that is not within the Charter," he stressed.

The minister described the situation as “a war of unpredictable consequences”, although he insisted on disassociating Spain from any participation through its bases.

For his part, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, referred to the escalation in the Middle East during his presence on the red carpet of the Goya Awards, held this Saturday in Barcelona. In statements to RTVE, he stressed that Spain “does not support the Iranian regime”, but warned that the military route will only worsen the conflict.

“Violence cannot be responded to with more violence because it will mean much more pain and more repression for the citizens of Iran”, he/she pointed out. In his/her opinion, “unfortunately, violence will bring more violence”.
