The Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, has reaffirmed this Friday the Government's commitment to the official status of Catalan in the European Union. “I cannot tell you when, but that it will be official, it will be,” he assured when asked by journalists after participating in the conference ‘EU-Mercosur Agreement: From negotiation to action’, held at the Palau Macaya of the La Caixa Foundation.

During his intervention before the media, Albares insisted that both his personal commitment and that of the Executive with the recognition of Catalan, Basque and Galician in European institutions “is beyond all doubt”.

The minister's statements come a day after Plataforma per la Llengua denounced a “political blockade” around this issue and urged the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to open negotiations with Germany to try to unblock the situation.
