The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, has stated at RTVE's breakfasts that Spain closed 2025 meeting the public deficit target set at 2.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), in line with the commitments made with the European Union.
As she pointed out, the data confirms the path of fiscal consolidation of the country after the high levels of deficit registered during the years marked by the pandemic and its economic effects. "Spain has met the objective," highlighted the minister, emphasizing the positive evolution of public accounts.
Montero defended that this result has been achieved “making economic growth compatible with social protection”, in a context in which the Government has maintained support measures for families and businesses while advancing in the reduction of the budgetary imbalance.
The head of the Treasury also highlighted the improvement in public revenues, driven by economic growth and employment, as well as by the evolution of tax collection. In this regard, she insisted that the Executive's economic policy has allowed to reduce the deficit without resorting to adjustments that affect the welfare state.
