Montse Mínguez has announced her decision to step down as spokesperson for the PSOE Federal Executive after the controversy generated by reports about her partner, Sergi Vélez's, real estate businesses. The socialist leader justified her decision by appealing to political responsibility and the need to protect the party's collective project at a time of political tension.

"I have made the decision to step back, convinced that it is the best for the collective project to which I have dedicated my effort, my commitment, and my best energies," Mínguez stated in her farewell message. With these words, the socialist explained her departure from office after several days of criticism over her partner's business activity, linked to the rental of housing in Lleida.
The controversy erupted after information was published about Vélez's real estate companies and the dozens of apartments he manages. The Popular Party has used this data to question the coherence of the socialist discourse on access to housing. Mínguez, for her part, had previously defended that it is a family business that complies with the law and had described the criticisms as a "personal attack."
Mínguez appeals to the collective project
In her farewell, the socialist leader focused on the country's political situation and the need to defend social progress. "We are living a decisive moment. A crucial moment for our country and for the values we defend," she affirmed, before warning of the risks that, in her opinion, the advance of the far-right poses.
"When the far-right knocks on the doors and intends to question social advances, rights, and consensuses that have taken years to build, our responsibility must be above any personal consideration," she added. The statement places her decision in a broader political context and presents her departure as a way of prioritizing collective interests over her particular situation.
Mínguez also wanted to thank the support received throughout her career. "I want to deeply thank the trust, support, and affection received during all this time," she expressed. Her words close a stage at the head of the socialist spokespersonship, marked in its last days by the controversy over her partner's real estate businesses.
The PSOE respects her decision and vindicates her trajectory
The federal leadership of the PSOE has publicly expressed its respect for Montse Mínguez's decision to leave both the spokespersonship and the Secretariat of Studies and Programs of the Federal Executive Commission. In a statement released this October 16, the party thanked her for her work and commitment during the time she held both responsibilities.
"We appreciate her dedication and commitment in the performance of her responsibilities, as well as the passion with which she has defended socialist values in each of her public interventions," the party stated. The PSOE thus wanted to highlight Mínguez's political work and her role in defending the party's positions.
Furthermore, the socialist leadership has vindicated her political coherence and her trajectory, stating that she has voted in accordance with her principles. The statement concludes with a recognition of her journey within the organization, which it defines as an "impeccable trajectory as a socialist," at a time marked by the controversy over her partner's real estate businesses.
