El Centro Nacional de Microbiología has confirmed that the PCR performed on the woman admitted to a hospital in Alicante has yielded a negative result for hantavirus. However, the current health protocol establishes that she must undergo a second test 24 hours later, according to El Ministerio de Sanidad.
The patient, 32 years old, remains hospitalized since this Friday in an isolation room with negative pressure after presenting mild respiratory symptoms, “mainly cough”, after having coincided on a flight with one of the passengers of the MV Hondius cruise ship who later died.
According to the foreseen procedure, if the second PCR also turns out negative, the woman will be considered a contact in quarantine and will remain in the Hospital Central de la Defensa Gómez Ulla de Madrid. On the other hand, if the result were positive, she would be transferred to the High-Level Isolation and Treatment Unit (UATAN) of Hospital La Fe.
