The DANA victims' associations have called a demonstration in València for next Saturday, October 31, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the catastrophe of October 29, 2024, which caused 233 deaths. The mobilization will once again be held under the slogan "Mazón a presó" (Mazón to prison), directed against the management of the DANA by the former President of the Generalitat and current PP deputy in Les Corts, Carlos Mazón.
According to the poster distributed by the convening entities, the protest will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Plaza de la Virgen in València and is open to all social movements in the Valencian Community. The associations will offer more details on Friday, October 16, at a press conference scheduled at the Octubre Centre de Cultura Contemporània (OCCC) in València.
Carlos Mazón returns to the Congress investigation committee
In parallel, Carlos Mazón appeared last Monday, September 21, for the second time before the Congress investigation committee on the management of the DANA of October 29, 2024. The former president of the Generalitat Valenciana focused his intervention on the order of the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV) that refused to investigate him for these events, a resolution he has used as an argument not to answer a good part of the questions raised by the deputies.
At the beginning of his intervention, Carlos Mazón stressed that, since his first appearance in November 2025, there have been new developments and he has placed the pronouncement of the TSJCV as the main change. As he has defended, the court completely ruled out his "responsibility", to the point of calling that pronouncement a "final judgment", although in reality it is an order. Mazón added that the resolution was adopted unanimously by five magistrates.
The former president also resorted to other judicial actions to support his position before the committee. He cited the order of the judge of Catarroja, Nuria Ruiz Tobarra, instructor of the criminal case of the DANA, by which he was summoned to testify as a witness, and insisted that this condition is "reserved only for third parties unrelated to the case". Then, he added: "And there is also an order from the Provincial Court that authorizes my voluntary request to appear in the case to know all the proceedings that have been carried out against me."
